Dislocation
What is an elbow dislocation?
Elbow dislocations occur when the elbow's joint surfaces are separated, and there are two main types: complete and partial. Dislocations are usually caused by trauma, such as car accidents or falling on your hand. The joint surfaces are separated from each other entirely in a complete dislocation, whereas they are only separated partially in partial dislocations (or subluxation).
Simple injuries (where there are no fractures or ligament damage) can often be corrected through nonsurgical treatment. However, complex dislocations (where there are other conditions, such as fractures or ligament damage) may require surgical intervention.
